Children's Nursery
We are a registered Nursery, which opened in 1991 and are licensed by OFSTED to care for 30 children aged between 2 and 5 years old. We also care for children with speech and language difficulties. Our Nursery is regularly inspected and surpasses exacting standards required by current legislation. We received an "Excellent" Ofsted report in November 1997 and 1999 and "Outstanding" in 2005. Our Nursery Our Nursery has been designed and equipped to provide a stimulating, child-centred environment, which combines the friendly atmosphere of home with the opportunity to explore and widen experiences. We are housed in a converted, detached bungalow with spacious rooms and our outdoor play area is totally secluded and secure. Our aim in the nursery is to provide a happy, homely atmosphere of relaxed security, providing an environment that is warm and stimulating to bridge the gap between home and the first steps to school - a place where fun and enjoyment go hand-in-hand with learning and discovery. Our main objective is to lay the good foundations that will enable your child to reach its full potential in later life. We ensure activity is balanced with room for messy play, construction and imaginative, physical and quiet play. We are committed to preserving children's right to be playful, have fun and develop at their own pace. The variety of experiences and activities offered will engage children in our care to explore the richness and diversity of seasons, festivals, their own interests and the interests of others.
Our Staff Our staff are qualified and experienced. They are dedicated to childcare and are committed to the love of children, understanding their needs, and providing quality care as the personal growth of each individual child is of special importance to us. They are trained to make detailed observations of children's progress and are friendly and responsive, making time to share details of daily achievements and progress and responding to any concerns or queries. Our Nursery Manager and Deputy hold the N.N.E.B. and our Nursery Nurses and Nursery Assistants are either qualified or experienced. All of our Nursery staff have been vetted through Ofsted and hold current First Aid certificates. Our Curriculum
We have a weekly timetable for computer and software activities and have a daily session in our new purpose built ball pool and soft play area. We have visitors to the nursery throughout the year for example: Police, Road Safety Officer, Dentist, Animal Lecturer and the Fire Department. We also arrange an educational visit to Paignton Zoo every year. Our Nursery programmes are the result of a constant process of refinement and development. Consultation with childcare and educational professionals informs our thinking and practice. The children in our care are placed into groups in the nursery at various times and are guided by their own key worker who is responsible for overseeing their progress and development and provides continuity. Termly reports are given and development on progress is constantly discussed. They will experience the fun of learning "Letterland" and "Number Zoo", and learning to write and read simple books. Communication We were the first Nursery in Plymouth to introduce the "Going Home Book", a book to inform you of what each child has been doing and how they have settled each session, along with this they are provided with a folder to carry all their paintings and creations home. We were also the first to introduce "My Going To School Book" to ease the transition between nursery and big school. Every month a newsletter will be issued informing parents of events and information in the Nursery. Every year we hold a parent's evening where you are offered a consultation with your child's key worker to discuss your child's progress and any queries you may have. However, please feel free to approach us at any time, shoudl you feel the need to do so. We have published a Parent Handbook which explains our approach to Education and our Policies and Procedures. This reflects our commitment to providing children with the best. Meals
